Advanced systems and functionalities of Ennova energy storage

Liquid Cooling

Allows maintaining the optimal operating temperature of the batteries even when the storage operates under high load. This ensures that heat is effectively dissipated, translating into longer cell life, greater safety, and operational stability. The use of liquid cooling enables the energy storage to operate in a mode of more than one cycle per day.

HVAC System

Controls the climate inside the container. It maintains proper temperature and humidity. This is absolutely crucial for the correct operation of electronic devices, especially when dealing with variable weather conditions.

Fire Protection System (PPOŻ)

Ennova storage from Ennovation Technology is equipped with certified extinguishing systems designed in accordance with Polish law and administrative requirements. Furthermore, the energy storage is equipped with alarm systems, safety switches, and hydrant connections. It is also possible to integrate the storage and its extinguishing system with an automatic notification system.

BMS System (Battery Management System)

A proprietary Ennovation solution. The system manages cell operation, monitors voltage, temperature, state of charge, and balances the performance of all battery modules. As a result, it increases safety and optimizes the lifespan and efficiency of the entire system.

ENNO-EMS Software (Energy Management System)

Developed by the Ennovation Technology team, it is used for energy management and is responsible for overall real-time storage control. ENNO-EMS integrates with the power grid, photovoltaic installations, other renewable energy sources, as well as external systems. It is this system that allows for the maximization of profits from storage operation. The EMS system is designed so that our technicians can fix 90% of errors and storage faults through it, allowing for faster response and better continuity of operation. ENNO-EMS meets cybersecurity requirements and connects to critical infrastructure.

Compliant with standards: IEC62351, NERC CIP, EU NIS2 Directive, ISO/IEC 27001.

Without EMS, it's just a battery

The Energy Management System (EMS) is a key tool for controlling and monitoring energy flows, and consequently, achieving savings or revenues from proper energy consumption management in an enterprise.

The key to real savings

The energy management system provides real-time information on operating parameters and executes assigned tasks. It allows for maximizing profits from storage operation by integrating with the grid, RES, and other systems.

Sample control strategies:

  • Gaining revenue from price spreads (e.g., dynamic tariffs).
  • Gaining revenue from the capacity market (e.g., DSR or generation).
  • Increasing self-consumption.
  • Reducing distribution fees by lowering contracted capacity.
  • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
  • System services (e.g., frequency regulation).
  • Reactive power compensation.
  • Zero Export function.
  • Island operation (off-grid).

Possible strategies for generating revenue from large-scale energy storage

Price Arbitrage (Day-Ahead Market – Energy Market)

  • We store energy when the price is low and discharge it when the price is high.
  • A capacity-to-power ratio of 4:1 means the storage can be charged and discharged in 4 hours. This is important as price peaks are relatively short.

Capacity Market (DSR Service)

  • Supports the energy transition during the interim period. By joining the capacity market with storage, we receive a fixed annual income for being ready to provide the grid operator with the storage capacity. The annual rate varies by year. In 2024, it is approximately PLN 240,000 for every 1MW of storage power.
  • For storage systems with power from 1 MW, the provider can enter the capacity market independently; for smaller systems, through one of the Aggregators.

Balancing Market

  • Currently the most attractive potential revenue source (effective as of June 14, 2024): FCR, aFRR, mFRR, RR.
  • Based on experience from other countries, it is assumed that these revenues will remain attractive in the long term.
  • It involves situations where, if the grid frequency drops from the desired 50 Hz, the storage must release power to the grid within seconds.
  • Services provided to the transmission system operator (PSE).

Flexibility Services

  • Income from system services provided to distribution network operators.
  • In the future, flexibility services will appear on the system services market, defined as services provided to the distribution system operator (DSO), necessary to ensure proper functioning of the power system through, e.g., rapid power delivery or reactive power regulation.

Cooperation process step by step

Leasing

The leasing offer for energy storage is a flexible financial solution that enables companies to invest in modern technologies without the need to commit a large amount of initial capital.

The lessor finances up to 90% of the device's value, allowing the entrepreneur to maintain financial liquidity – the down payment can be as low as 10%. The financing period reaches up to 9 years (108 months), so the investment is repaid in convenient installments tailored to the capabilities and specifics of the business.

ESCO Model

At Ennovation Technology, we have prepared an offer for energy storage systems within the ESCO model for our clients. Thanks to this solution, in cooperation with a partner, we finance the investment, which allows for an immediate reduction in bills without the need to incur high initial costs.

The ESCO model (Energy Service Company) is a solution that allows for the energetic modernization of a company without the need for initial costs. In practice, it works like an energy partnership where a specialized company not only takes on the financial risk but also comprehensively handles the installation and management of modern solutions, such as energy storage or photovoltaic systems.
